Green Hills Gets New Wine Store
By Angela Patterson

Grace's Plaza Wine and Spirits recently opened at 4005 Hillsboro Road in the former Grace's Shop for Ladies.

The space, leased by Nirvana Beverage, occupies more than 16,000 square feet, which includes storage areas.

The store opened after the owners of two nearby liquor stores — Bud's Discount Wine and Liquors and the Green Hills Wine Shoppe — filed a lawsuit in October, challenging the mayor's issuance of a certificate of compliance.

The suit alleged the store was in violation of a Metro ordinance that states a new liquor store cannot open within 200 yards of an existing retail liquor store. Chancellor Claudia Bonnyman ruled in November to uphold the issuance of the certificate, allowing the store to open.

"We are here for the long haul," said Dan Gokal, director of operations, about Nirvana Beverage's significant investment in the property. "We intend to build a new Nashville shopping tradition by offering an extensive array of wine, spirits and ales, accompanied by gracious customer service. We look forward to serving the Nashville community for years to come."

Gokal said that more than $100,000 was spent renovating the space, creating niche shopping areas such as The Royal Mile Scotch and Ale Den, The Old World Wine Hall, The Wine Cellar, and The Wine Niche. A resource area — complete with a big-screen television and beverage-related reading materials — is planned in front of the built-in fireplace.

Suspended from the 18-foot ceiling are four chandeliers from the original Grace's Shop for Ladies in downtown Nashville.

Grace's Plaza Wine and Spirits is open 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Entry is permitted only from the Hillsboro Road entrance.
