Grace’s Plaza Wine & Spirits opens despite state of the economy

NASHVILLE, TN (12-23-08) – Grace’s Plaza Wine & Spirits (GPWS) is now open at 4005 Hillsboro Road in Nashville. The newly renovated, full-service retail shop is located in the former Grace’s Shop for Ladies, next door to Trader Joe’s.

GPWS is now the largest wine, spirits and high-gravity beers retail shop in Green Hills and one of the largest in the Midstate. The space, leased by Nirvana Beverage, occupies over 16,000 square feet, which includes storage areas.

“We are very pleased to open to the public during the holiday rush,” says Dan Gokal, Director of Operations. “Already customers are commenting on how easy it is to access the store and our extensive range of offerings. Our goals are to offer competitive prices, the broadest selection, and an unparalleled shopping experience. We are dedicated to becoming an active, attractive part of the Green Hills community.”

Upon entering the store, it is immediately evident that GPWS is like no other retail space in Nashville. In addition to the main wine and spirits shopping areas, the store also features The Royal Mile Scotch & Ale Den, The Old World Wine Hall, The Wine Cellar, and The Wine Niche. A resource area –highlighted by a big screen television, and stocked with beverage-related reading materials – is planned in front of the built-in fireplace. Suspended from the 18-foot ceiling are four chandeliers from the original Grace’s Shop for Ladies in downtown Nashville. Six display windows were decorated for the season by local wine and spirits wholesalers. Custom woodwork, shelving and wine racks add to the ambiance of the shop. Gokal says that over $100,000 was spent renovating the space.

“We are here for the long haul,” says Gokal about Nirvana Beverage’s significant investment in the property. “We intend to build a new Nashville shopping tradition by offering an extensive array of wine, spirits and ales, accompanied by gracious customer service. We look forward to serving the Nashville community for years to come.”

GPWS is open Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m.-9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Although there is access to the store from Bandywood, entry is only permitted from the Hillsboro Road entrance. Grace’s Plaza offers plenty of parking for its patrons.

In November, a Davidson County chancellor upheld Metro's issuance of a certificate of compliance allowing Nirvana Beverage to apply for a liquor license. Two nearby stores tried to stop Nirvana Beverage from opening by filing a lawsuit claiming the business was too close to the Wine Shoppe of Green Hills to meet Metro legal requirements. Metro said the distance was acceptable and told the state Alcoholic Beverage Commission that the application met all Metro laws.
